I have always liked magazines because they let people be interested in more than one thing at once.

You could turn a page and find a woman talking about heartbreak, then another talking about architecture, right beside someone writing about an unsolved case. Subjects that shouldn’t make sense together somehow arranged into the perfect form of weekend distractions.

That is the spirit behind The Floating Scarf.

A place for women who care about history, finance, art, politics, culture, the distant and the familiar.

More than that, a place for honest conversations. The really honest ones. Not the versions we tell ourselves to cope, or the diluted versions we offer our friends. The full, often contradictory spectrum of thoughts, emotions and actions that make up a life.

This first issue is about wanting.

An appropriate place to begin, because wanting is responsible for almost everything. Entire careers, cities and relationships. Entire versions of ourselves.

Thank you for being here at the beginning.

We’re very happy you’re here.

Welcome.
